Lofic contains folic acid. It is a form of vitamin B that is mainly found in dried food like asparagus, beets, broccoli, sprouts and spinach. It is mainly used in making of RNA, DNA and amino acids.
- In synthesis of DNA and RNA
- It controls the high levels of homocysteine which causes heart diseases and stroke.

The drug as such is in inactive but converted into active form by dihydrofolate reductase to tetrahydrofolic acid and methyltetrahydrofolate. This helps in the maintainance of the normal purine and thymidylate nucleic acids and normal erythro poiesis.
The drug after oral administration is bound to plasma protein.
The drug follows hepatic metabolism
All the metabolites of the drugs are excreted in urine in 6hrs, with complete excretion in 24 hrs.
